If you live in a major metropolitan area, there are probably two things that are true about your city'One, there are many people from all over the world there and two, there are hundreds of bars. You can also be sure that every bar in town is playing local sports. So, how do you stand out? By offering more to your clientele with satellite TV.

Satellite TV broadcasts the highest number of games worldwide both in quantity and variety. This means that while other bars may resort to playing reruns of last night's big game during the day, you can be playing a soccer match that could be your Latin American or European patrons' big game. Soccer still reigns as the world's most popular sport, so chances are fairly high that even if you have to open your bar at 10:00 a.m. to accommodate for European time difference, you can still draw the crowds by being one of the only bars to broadcast soccer. Especially with the 2010 World Cup coming up, you want to be able to provide what your customers are looking for in terms of which matches are playing.

Plus, soccer isn't the only additional sport broadcasted on satellite TV. Although you may not believe it as an American, cricket is the second-most popular sport in the world. Playing cricket matches in your bar could be a huge untapped niche in the international market. If your bar is located in an area that draws many people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Zimbabwe, England, Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies, you could end up being hugely popular by playing the satellite TV network devoted to cricket.

Another way you can cater to special clientele is by offering non-local games. Everyone knows they can go to the average sports bar to watch the local hockey team play, but a Northern Californian in Chicago may have to search high and low for a Sharks game when they aren't playing the Blackhawks. If you mark yourself as a "California bar," a "hockey bar" or simply "the bar that plays all of the games," you can build rapport with loyal patrons instead of offering the same thing people can get anywhere in town.

Providing more college sports coverage is another way you can build rapport with clientele. Especially on a low-key afternoon when there aren't many people watching a game of particular importance to the area, you should be able to cater to a transplant from Georgia who wants to watch the UGA game. Satellite TV offers more college sports than any other provider by hosting networks devoted to Big Ten Football, March Madness and all other college tournaments.

Satellite TV also offers stations that center around NASCAR, tennis, golf, boxing and UFC fights. The more you can offer your clientele, the bigger variety of customers you can draw in. Once you determine what your neighborhood sports demographic is, maybe you can cut it down to the most popular ones, but you'll never know until you test it out.
